A 14 veteran of WFIL, Jay Cook spent a number of those years at the helm as Program Director. Later, he was the man responsible for importing Memphis morning man Rick Dees to KIIS-FM in Los Angeles. This recording was made just over a week before the '68 election. Listen for the Nixon / Republican party ad and news of other candidates campaign itineraries.

“Psychedelic Promos & Radio Spots” is an outa-site eight-volume series that includes hundreds of (very slightly) trippy radio commercials for shuttered music clubs, new records and movies, upcoming concerts and discontinued products from a half-century ago. You'll also hear then-popular rock groups performing groovy advertising jingles for cereals, soda, shoe stores, jeans, hot dogs and deodorant. (My personal favorites are Iron Butterfly for Ban roll-on, and the Rolling Stonesfor Rice...

Really two commercials in one: A commercial for RCA Victor "Personal TV", an early portable. Contains mild sexism. TV set's were quite expensive in those days. The other commercial promotes RCA Victor's range of radios.

A miscellaneous collection of commercials taped off NBC's New York City station in 1980. However, some of these are older than 1980 (one of them, I read, was originally made in the early 1970s!), but were still being aired in 1980. Includes a mix of national and local ads. Products and services include: Aunt Jemima; Ritz Thrift Shop, "News 4", Roseland, Dime Savings Bank of New York, Essex House, Wall Street Journal, People magazine, and more. These are taken from daytime television....

Warning: despite the lack of copyright notice, I imagine this REALLY cannot be uploaded to YouTube nor used in projects. After all, it features Diana Ross, The Jackson 5 and other big names. The music is still copyrighted though the show itself is probably PD. A great show, highlighted by Diana Ross and Sammy Davis Jr doing a song-and-dance together.

Oh damn, a cigarette commercial. This one aired during the mid-1960s (either 1964 or 1965...). Yes, it is one of those "I'd rather fight than switch" commercials. Ugh.

A fairly inane but amusing 1960s cat food commercial. The name of the brand is curious, to say the least. The commercial features a jingle promoting the "new green can", which is odd, since few cats really seem to care about such issues. Also, the "color" of this copy is largely faded. The silly jingle, sung in the vocal-arrangement style expected of commercials of the time, is catchy, though.

A classic commercial for the United States version of the Ford Falcon. Aired circa 1966. This automobile, being a "compact", isn't among the best looking of the era. Regardless, the video is watchable and has good picture and sound.

This wonderful film traces the steps taken in creating and shooting a television commercial for Post Grape Nuts. This film was produced by George Gage Productions, which filmed the commercial, starring the legendary Euell Gibbons, for the Benton & Bowles advertising agency, with lots of discussions & outtakes. The funky "Cranberry Rag" played by pianist Paul McDonough is delightful.
